Leveling th3 Playing Field to all Participants

I was completing some health and safety modules at work when I came across the topic of accessibility and its importance in making the campus inclusive to all walks of life. This drove me to think about some of the improvements and challenges there are when it comes to accessibility and gaming.

For a long time I was extremely one track minded. It never occurred to me to think about gamers who maybe be living with a disability that play games with a traditional controller or keyboard/mouse having it become more of a chore than entertainment. Doing a little bit of digging on the internet I came across a controller made by Microsoft that caters to gamers who may have difficulties using the Xbox One controller.

The Microsoft Adaptive Controller allows for complete customization of the controller to cater towards gamers with limited mobility. With over 14 additional accessories, it truly allows for gamers to play their favorite game with a setup that is comfortable and easier to maneuver. The coolest thing I found about this controller ways its many different variations and gadgets made to fix many issues arising for gamers with disabilities.

During this years Superbowl, Xbox created acommercial highlighting some of the challenges gamers with limited mobility have and how the adaptive controller leveled the playing field for them to enjoy gaming with their peers. It really showcased some of the leaps the gaming industry has made over the years to make it as inclusive as possible.Though there is still a long ways to go, innovations like the Microsoft Adaptive controller are definitely the right steps needed to be made to make gaming into an activity to be enjoyed by any and everyone despite any barriers to play.
